Don Julio 1942-History
Don Julio Gonzalez-Frausto Estrada was born on 7 January 1925 in Atotonilco, Jalisco, dealt a cruel blow of losing his father at the early age of 15, exposing him to the harsh realities of becoming a man at a time his mates were probably frolicking in mischief. Staffed in his uncle Jose’s distillery at that time he began mastering the art of making good tequila and also the terrains of his home soil which he took advantage of by planting his agave plants in unique spaced fashion that allowed them reach full potential before they were harvested for use.
For the next 60 years to follow Don Julio would wow the Hispanic communities and subsequently the world at large.
For the first time since the first brew of the Don Julio 1942; in recognition of Don Julio Gonzalez-Frausto Estrada’s 60-year input and achievement in the distilling business, there has been a modification in packaging, recipe, and ultimately the finished product itself. Determined to retain demand yet offer something more to the taste buds.
A successful change to the bottle design and an enhanced drip-perfect deliciousness that meets the tongue, introduces us to a more rounded, taller, and brown piece of brewing wizardry that many would consider unnecessary.
However, it goes to prove that the widespread recognition of Don Julios liquor is in no way far-fetched, detailed in taste and smoothness to its last drop.
Steps of Tequila preparation:
Harvest the agave; by cutting from the leaf’s base up to the apex, dismember the leaves around the centre until you reach the centre of the plant where the long bulb-like part is to be located and severed with the coa de Jima.
Next is the agave core, or the piña baked through a total cooking time of approximately 16 hours plus warming and cooling times to ensure the piña does not over nor under cooked.
Then you may proceed to shred the piña to extract the agave juice then ferment it before barrelling the juice in oak casks to age the tequila.
Conclusion:

Frankly? Who would not want to ‘pull out all the stops to ensure that this unique work of art keeps coming? A top shelve liquor required to age for 30 months, the ’42, considering the high cost of agave leaves and their incredibly long maturity time; indicates that if the stock was to run out, it could take a decade before the next batch find their way into pubs, bars, and stores alike.
